Transportation Policy Committee

According to its adopted by-laws, "the Transportation Policy Committee is charged with serving as the principal body for transportation planning and programming in the Lafayette Urbanized Area." The TPC provides policy and planning development and implementation for a multi-modal transportation system. As such, the TPC approves and makes recomendations on all transportation infrastructure decisions involving federal, state and local funds. The TPC makes final recommendations to the governing authority of the MPO. However, the TPC and the MPO Governing Board must come to an agreement on transportation issues.

The membership of the Transportation Policy Committee (TPC) is determined and reviewed biannually by the Committee and may make recommendations to the MPO, with the concurrence of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The members serve for a four-year term. Transportation Policy Committee membership is comprised principally of decision makers of general purpose local government, as well as a representative from LA-DOTD and a non-voting representative from FHWA. In addition to these members, the TPC membership includes two members appointed by the City-Parish President; four members appointed by the City-Parish Council; Mayors of the five municipalities; and the Chair of the Lafayette Planning and Zoning Commission.

The TPC usually meets on the first Monday of every month at 12:00pm at the Lafayette Science Museum.
