MPO Committees
The structure of the Lafayette Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) was developed to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of region-wide transportation projects and programs and solicit public comment on the proposed projects and programs.
The structure of the MPO includes the following committees:
- Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
- Transportation Technical Committee (TTC)
- Transportation Policy Committee (TPC)
- Planning Commission (PC)
- MPO Governing Board
In general, a project will be introduced to the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) for comments and review. After being approved by the CAC, the project then proceeds to the Transportation Technical Committee (TTC) for comments and review. After approval by the TTC, the project is then introduced to the Transportation Policy Committee (TPC).
Once a project is introduced to the TPC, a Public Hearing is advertised and a 15 day public comment period begins. The TPC can then adopt a resolution approving the process once the public comment period is complete and the public hearing is held at the TPC meeting.
When a project is approved by the TPC, it then proceeds to the Planning Commission for introduction and adoption. After the project is approved by the Planning Commission, it proceeds to the MPO Governing Board (Lafayette Consolidated Government City-Parish Council) for introduction and final adoption.
Each of the committee meetings are open to the public and advertised on the MPO website. The meetings all offer opportunity for public comment.
The Transportation Planning Process outlines the procedure for project approval by the MPO.
Since Lafayette City-Parish Government has been designated as the host agency for the MPO, its primary function is to facilitate the operation of the MPO through its Department of Traffic and Transportation, Comprehensive Planning/MPO Department. This includes providing staff and administrative support and legal responsibility for execution of grant contracts (including final adoption of the UPWP).
