Unified Planning Work Program(UPWP)
The Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) is the instrument for coordinating and managing transportation planning efforts in the Lafayette Urbanized Area. It is designed to facilitate a coordinated effort to physically plan for future development. In addition, this Work Program serves as the description of proposed work submitted to the federal agencies which are the financial sponsors of the transportation planning program. The UPWP is developed in accordance with the Metropolitan Planning Requirements as outlined in sections 3005, 3006, and 6001 of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) {Federal Law PL 102-240}, the Transportation Efficiency Act for the Twenty First Century (TEA-21) {Federal Law PL 105-178} and the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) {Federal Law PL 109-59} as well as Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act (42 U.S.C. 2000 d-1) and related regulations and the President's Executive Order on Environmental Justice.
